County Court Bureau
The County Court Bureau employs the most experienced litigators at the Legal Aid Society. Our attorneys represent clients charged with felonies, the most serious criminal charges. An attorney will be assigned to a case after arraignment, and will immediately seek to confer with a client to discuss all aspects of the case, including all defenses. The attorney will represent the client at all levels of the judicial process, including motion practice, pre-trial hearings, and if the case is not resolved at trial. The County Court Bureau Chief is Jenna Suppon. The Deputy County Court Bureau Chiefs are Tim Naples and Cindy D’Ambra.
County Court attorneys represent clients in pre-indictment matters, and provide legal advice on whether a client should or should not testify before a Grand Jury. Our attorneys also engage with prosecutors in pre-indictment plea bargaining, seeking to obtain the best result for our clients. Attorneys in our County Court Bureau provide alternatives to litigation and trial, and represent clients in judicial diversion for drug related offenses, Youth Court, Veteran's Court, Drug Treatment and Mental Health Court, and a specialized court for victims of human trafficking.
Specialized attorneys represent clients at Parole Hearings, S.O.R.A. hearings, and provide important advice to clients with respect to the potential adverse immigration consequences related to criminal and/or Family Court matters.
